Why this is listed

Free, short, and available in more languages than anything else in this section — which matters enormously for a family that does not read English at home. Listed separately from the adult JESUS film because the differences are real: the child narrators change what the film is doing.

Before you press play

The watching children are invented; everything they see is taken from Luke. The crucifixion is shown. The nails going in are not, but the cross, the blood and the death are, and that sequence runs several minutes — it is the reason to watch this yourself before showing it to a child under about eight. It closes with a direct invitation to pray a prayer of commitment, which some parents will want to be sitting beside their child for rather than have arrive unannounced.

Suited to Older children. Age judgements are ours, not a rating board’s — you know your own family.

How to start

  1. Open jesusfilm.org (opens an external site) and read what Jesus Film Project says about itself before you read anything else.
  2. Read the note above first. It is there so an evening does not go wrong twenty minutes in.
  3. Watch it yourself before you watch it with children, if there are children.
  4. Read the passage it dramatises alongside it. The point is to send you back to the text, not to replace it.
  5. Afterwards, ask what the story added and what it left out. That conversation is worth more than the film.
