The Christian Broadcasting Network
Superbook
Two children and a robot are pulled into Bible stories by a flying book, one story an episode, from Genesis through Revelation. Five seasons of computer-animated half-hours, each framed by a problem in the children's own lives that the passage then answers.
Why this is listed
It goes past the flannelgraph stories. Most children's Bible series stop at Noah, David and the nativity; this one keeps going into Job, the prophets, Paul's letters and Revelation, which almost nothing else at this age level attempts. The animation dates quickly. The coverage does not.
Before you press play
The frame is entirely invented: Chris, Joy and the robot Gizmo do not exist in Scripture, they speak to biblical figures who somehow accept them, and episodes compress and reorder events to fit twenty-two minutes. The flood, the plagues, Sodom and the crucifixion are all shown — the cross, the nails and the darkness are on screen, briefly — and are real menace for a four- or five-year-old. Made by CBN, so angels and demons appear as visible acting agents more often than in most children's Bible material, and the closing prayer is charismatic in accent.
Suited to Young children. Age judgements are ours, not a rating board’s — you know your own family.
How to start
- Open us-en.superbook.cbn.com (opens an external site) and read what The Christian Broadcasting Network says about itself before you read anything else.
- Read the note above first. It is there so an evening does not go wrong twenty minutes in.
- Watch it yourself before you watch it with children, if there are children.
- Read the passage it dramatises alongside it. The point is to send you back to the text, not to replace it.
- Afterwards, ask what the story added and what it left out. That conversation is worth more than the film.

Buck Denver Asks… What's in the Bible?
Jellyfish Labs (Phil Vischer)
Thirteen volumes of puppets, songs and a host walking children through every book of the Bible in order — nine on the Old Testament, four on the New. It teaches the shape of the canon rather than retelling the stories: covenant, exile, why there are two testaments, where the books came from.
