The Gideons International
Hand out Scripture as a Gideon
Members meet locally as a camp and personally place and hand out Bibles and New Testaments in hotels, hospitals, schools, prisons, and military bases in around 200 countries. Membership is limited to men in a qualifying business or professional role, with the Auxiliary open to their wives.
Why this is listed
It has lasted since 1899 because members do the distributing themselves, which makes this a standing local commitment. The membership restrictions are unusual and worth reading before you enquire.
How to start
- Open gideons.org (opens an external site) and read what The Gideons International says about itself before you read anything else.
- Check the time it asks for: weekly rhythm.
- Look at the filings below, then decide. Numbers are context, not a verdict.
- Tell your church. Going out is rarely meant to be done alone.
