Crossroads Prison Ministries
Mentor a prisoner by letter
Volunteer mentors read a prisoner's completed Bible study lesson, write back with comments and encouragement, and send the next one — all routed through the ministry's address under a pen name. Materials and training are supplied, and mentors work from home anywhere in the world.
Why this is listed
The best option for someone who cannot physically get to a prison: no clearance, no travel, and a real relationship measured in years of letters rather than a single visit. Mentors stay anonymous by policy, which is the safeguarding answer to the obvious question.
How to start
- Open cpministries.org (opens an external site) and read what Crossroads Prison Ministries says about itself before you read anything else.
- Check the time it asks for: weekly rhythm.
- Look at the filings below, then decide. Numbers are context, not a verdict.
- Tell your church. Going out is rarely meant to be done alone.

Serve a Kairos weekend inside
Kairos Prison Ministry International
Trained volunteer teams run a structured four-day retreat inside a prison for a group of residents and then come back monthly for reunions. Kairos Outside runs the same format for women whose family members are incarcerated, and Kairos Torch works with younger offenders.

Deliver Christmas presents with Angel Tree
Prison Fellowship
Angel Tree lets a church provide and deliver Christmas presents to children on behalf of their incarcerated parent, given in the parent's name with a message from them. The same organisation runs in-prison academies and re-entry mentoring that need volunteers the rest of the year.
