Prison Fellowship

Deliver Christmas presents with Angel Tree

Angel Tree lets a church provide and deliver Christmas presents to children on behalf of their incarcerated parent, given in the parent's name with a message from them. The same organisation runs in-prison academies and re-entry mentoring that need volunteers the rest of the year.

Why this is listed

The lowest-friction entry point in prison ministry — a church can run Angel Tree without a single volunteer clearing a prison background check — and for most congregations it becomes the door to everything else. Founded by Chuck Colson in 1976 and still the largest US prison ministry.

How to start

  1. Open prisonfellowship.org (opens an external site) and read what Prison Fellowship says about itself before you read anything else.
  2. Check the time it asks for: one-off.
  3. Look at the filings below, then decide. Numbers are context, not a verdict.
  4. Tell your church. Going out is rarely meant to be done alone.

    DreamWorks Animation

The Genesis account of Joseph — the coat, the pit, Potiphar's house, the prison, the famine and the reunion — made as a direct-to-video companion to The Prince of Egypt. Joseph's dreams are rendered as a swirling Van Gogh-styled sequence that sets them visibly apart from the waking story.
