The Case for Christ

A 2017 drama about Lee Strobel, the atheist legal editor at the Chicago Tribune who set out to disprove Christianity after his wife's conversion and ended up believing it. Based on his book of the same name, it follows the evidence he weighed for the resurrection.

Why this is listed

Confirmed on the Apple TV listing: directed by Jon Gunn, 2017, 1 hr 53 min, rated PG for thematic elements including medical descriptions of crucifixion. Pure Flix is the distributor and its own articles say it streams there with a subscription; a stable Pure Flix title page could not be fetched, so the Apple TV page is the most direct link found.

Before you press play

A dramatisation of Lee Strobel's own account, so interviews are condensed and some conversations invented for the screen. Rated PG: marital strain, a hospital emergency with a child, and a subplot involving a shooting. Fine for teens; younger children will find it slow.

Suited to Teens. Age judgements are ours, not a rating board’s — you know your own family.

How to start

  1. Open tv.apple.com (opens an external site) and read what Pure Flix Entertainment says about itself before you read anything else.
  2. Read the note above first. It is there so an evening does not go wrong twenty minutes in.
  3. Watch it yourself before you watch it with children, if there are children.
  4. Read the passage it dramatises alongside it. The point is to send you back to the text, not to replace it.
  5. Afterwards, ask what the story added and what it left out. That conversation is worth more than the film.
