Precept Upon Precept — inductive Bible study

A workbook-driven method that has you mark the text by hand — key words, contrasts, time markers — before you consult any commentary. Courses run book by book across both testaments and are taught in churches, in prisons, and on your own.

ProvisionalBible studyBroadly evangelical

Why this is listed

It teaches a transferable method rather than the content of one book, so the fourth study costs less effort than the first. The workbooks are not cheap and the marking system looks fussy for the first fortnight; both are worth pushing through.

How to start

  1. Open shop.precept.org (opens an external site) and read what Precept Ministries International says about itself before you read anything else.
  2. Confirm the cost and level fit: paid, intermediate, over weeks.
  3. Note the tradition — Broadly evangelical. It will shape what you are taught, and that is worth knowing going in.
  4. Put the first session in your calendar now. The gap between reading about study and doing it is a calendar entry.
