Lutheran World Relief

Sew mission quilts and pack kits

Congregational sewing groups make quilts to a set pattern and assemble personal care, school, and baby kits, then ship them to LWR for distribution overseas and, more recently, inside the United States. The published annual guide gives exact materials, sizes, and shipping instructions.

Why this is listed

Running since 1945 and genuinely intergenerational: a small congregation can put ten people around a table with instructions specific enough that a first group cannot get it wrong. Read the shipping section of the guide before you start.

How to start

  1. Open lwr.org (opens an external site) and read what Lutheran World Relief says about itself before you read anything else.
  2. Check the time it asks for: weekly rhythm.
  3. Look at the filings below, then decide. Numbers are context, not a verdict.
  4. Tell your church. Going out is rarely meant to be done alone.
