Why this is listed

Read the fathers themselves instead of a survey about them, for nothing. The translations are Victorian and occasionally show it, but this is the collection that puts fifteen hundred years of primary sources in front of a reader with no library card.

How to start

  1. Open ccel.org (opens an external site) and read what Christian Classics Ethereal Library says about itself before you read anything else.
  2. Confirm the cost and level fit: free, advanced, over ongoing.
  3. Note the tradition — Interdenominational. It will shape what you are taught, and that is worth knowing going in.
  4. Put the first session in your calendar now. The gap between reading about study and doing it is a calendar entry.
